Would still smell poopy in a dirty diaper.
As many of you may know, we don't know what in the world to name our soon-to-be-born baby boy. We each have our ideas, but we can't seem to come to a consensus. Emma is still really set on naming him Prince, for example. I think there is a lot of pressure because this could very well be our only son and we really want to get it right. I don't want to just randomly pick a name that sounds good--I really want it to have some sort of religious or genealogical meaning. For example, Rachel was named after my great-great grandmother and me, Emma was named after Emma Smith and my Mom. Kimmy was named after a character in a movie (but that is okay, because her name fits her absolutely perfectly! It was inspired.)
Quite often mine and Thomas' conversation turns to "what should we name our baby". The other night as we were discussing it, I had a brilliant idea. Thomas and I both have wonderful grandfathers--his grandfather just happened to seal us in the temple. So I figured it might be nice to name our son Grant Harold Pool. Thomas' response: "He would be the only old man in the second grade." That line still cracks me up! It was a nice thought though.
In my heart of heart of hearts, I keep going back to Rex. This little guy in my big belly is already named Rex in my head, and that is why no other name really works for me. That's not all. I would LOVE to name him Rex Eldredge Pool. I know it is a very unconventional name, and as Thomas puts it, too many last names. And maybe our little guy would get teased, but "that which doesn't destroy us makes us stronger", right? That isn't even the best of it though!
We all know from our paleontological studies in fifth grade that Rex means "King" and it is Thomas' middle name and my favorite thing to call him. Growing up I knew that my last name Eldredge came from England and that before my ancestors came to America, the name was Eldred. I always wondered what it meant, but never actually knew until just recently. I read a fascinating history of the Eldreds of England. They descended from an old Saxon pirate tribe that eventually settled in Briton while the country was weakened by the Romans. The name Eldred in the Saxon language means "the Terrible". There is so much more about this ancient family that is so interesting, but I won't drone on.
My point is, if we name our son Rex Eldredge, his name will mean "King Terrible"! Isn't that the coolest ever!? I think it is a name that will earn him a great deal of respect (at least, after he explains what it means and why his mother was so insistent on giving it to him).
Oh well, whatever we decide to name him, I will love him to pieces!

I think that's so funny! Also, how often do people even know our middle names. My dad's middle name was his mom's maiden name and I think it worked. I'm just so excited for you to have a boy!
What is Thomas talking about? I love the Rex Eldredge Pool combo. My middle name "Bembrey" is a old family last name, and I love it. My brother Adam just used it with his newborn son, too.
Kristy...Oh I think you should stick with Rex. I love it and it's such a manly name!! I loved hearing about the Eldredge name history, I will have to learn more!! And he won't have to worry about being picked on, he has three big sisters to protect him!! If they are anything like my three headstrong stubborn girls he will be tough!! Can't wait to see pics when he comes!!
I love Rex Eldredge you should go with that one. I love that he would be King Terrible. Names are tough good luck!
