The Big Joke is Spelling Words!

KJ and RM just started back at their regular public school this week. To say it has been a stress-free week is an understatement. They have time to play outside after school. We have time in the morning to get ready without rushing. It has been very nice. But today as I was going through KJ's folder after school, I pulled out a worksheet with a list of words on it. I asked her if it was her spelling list. She said yes and we both burst out laughing hysterically, until we were in tears! At her old school she had spelling words like "correspondence" and "egregious". She consistently did very well on those tests. Her list for this week has words like "sky," "cry," "lie"...you get the idea and you can probably see why it was so funny. The hardest word on there is tiger. When I mentioned that between fits of laughter, she came back, "I could have spelled it 'tigger'!" That wasn't the only funny part. She is an obsessive reader. She loves to read and she does so with no force on my part, all of her own free will and choice. Her latest reading obsession is The Chronicles of Narnia. She is currently reading Prince Caspian. Well, today she brought home her reading log with an easy reader in it. She read it twice in 15 minutes. I am hoping the teacher will notice and bump her up to a higher ELA level. Anyway, maybe you had to be there, but we had a really good laugh over it all! I will forever be grateful to her old charter school for the strength they developed in KJ for reading and writing. That was the one very wonderful thing about that school.
